Teaching at The Muse Writers Center!



Well, I am jumping in head first this fall; I've started my new gig as the Director of Writing and Faculty Development at my alma mater and have finally linked up with the good folks at The Muse to teach a poetry workshop on formal verse. I'm psyched about all this good work going on in the world and about what we'll be creating soon! Please come join the party if you can. Here are the details:

Inventive Forms: Exploring Formal Poetry

This course is designed for beginning or experienced poets who are interested in learning more about formal verse and various poetic forms. We will study works by various formalists including: Basho, Sonia Sanchez, Shakespeare, Wanda Coleman, Robert Frost, Sterling Brown, A. Van Jordan, Martin Espada and others. We will learn about several forms during each class and these will include: the haiku, sonnet, villanelle, sestina, ghazal, blues form, bop, abecedarian, hybrids and many more. Poets will write original poems in form to be discussed in our workshop. Work will be submitted prior to each class and will be discussed by the group on each meeting date.
Sundays, 4-6:30 p.m. (bi-weekly)
a 4 week session beginning October 28

Session cost: $155 ($145 returning students)
